EatMan 98 DVD Set
Vendor: Bandai Entertainment
Problem 1:There is a subtitle glitch which makes a particular line "stick" for a long time, the sutitle in question starts in Ambrosian Days 1 at time index 6:27.
Workaround: Once the bug is noticed, rewind back to just before time index 6:33 to see the next subtitle update.
Discs Affected: all?
Players Affected: JVC-701BK, Apex AD-600A, Playstation 2 and many more, but not all, it does not affect my DVL-700
Severity: 3. It's pretty obnoxious but still livable for this title.
Nitpick 1: The descriptions for episode 3 & 4 are swapped in the insert in the packaging.
Workaround: Don't rely on the packaging to be 100% accurate.
Severity: 1
Recalled: no
Last Updated:

The only present hypothesis about the subtitle stick is a possible layer switch. Thanks to Jon Niehof for the time index data. Ken Kruis is the first to bring up the liner typo to me, the typo was confirmed by Jon Niehof.

Eden's Bowy Vol 3
Vendor: ADV Films
DVD Authoring:
Problem 1:The dub audio track on the last episode in DVD volume 3 is wildly mistimed, from half a second to two seconds. The Japanese audio is fine
Workaround: none, other than watching it Japanese / subbed
Discs Affected: all volume 3 discs
Players Affected: not a player issue
Severity: 3?
Recalled: no
Last Updated: 2003 Nov 28

This issue was first reported in August 2003, now in November of 2003 there is still no notice of a fix. Until they get into a habit of properly checking discs before shipping them, I suggest not preordering ADV's discs, wait a few weeks or months to make sure there aren't any reports of problems.

El Hazard OVA
Vendor:
DVD Authoring:
Problem 1:The subtitle timings do not match the Japanese 5.1 audio track, and some reports have it that it doesn't match the Japanese stereo track either, but it matches better. Some reports have it at a half second, others at one second and others claim even worse.
Workaround: turn on the dub or the stereo Japanese track
Discs Affected: all
Players Affected: ?
Severity: I have no clue. Given the wide variation in opinion on how bad this is I am reluctant to rate it.
Nitpick 1:The grammar on the first two lines in the subtitle on disc number one is odd:
"It is a dream those who remember. It is a nostalgic memory of its ancient."
Workaround: none
Discs Affected:
Players Affected:
Severity: 1
Nitpick 2:There is no timing information on many of the episodes. This is required to jump to specific parts of an episode.
Workaround: none

Escaflowne
Vendor: Bandai Entertainment
Problem 1:In some cases the video quality drops and audio drops out on this, in cases even halting the player. The 29 second mark seems to be commonly noted. Also some Pioneer players seem to stop at Title 7, Chapter 5 Time Index 23:08, you might be able to press the menu button to get to the menu.
Workaround: ?
Discs Affected: All of volume 1
Players Affected: REALMagic Hollywood Plus, Apple DVD Player 1.3, ATI DVD, PowerDVD 2.55, and WinDVD, Creative Dxr2 player, and the Windows Media Player the disc hangs, The Pioneer issue is known to affect their: DVL-700, DVL-V888, DVL-909, DV-414, DV-525 players, it does not affect my DVL-700
Severity: 2. It's pretty obnoxious but livable for this title.
Problem 2:Volumes 5 and 6 do not work in some DVD players, most notably the Sony PS2.
Workaround: If you can, skip to title 1, 4, 5 or 6. My guess is that maybe the "boot up" code is a bit too mangled for a PS2, but that's just conjecture.
Discs Affected: All of volumes 5 and 6
Players Affected: Sony PlayStation 2
Severity: 5 if you only own a PS2, it doesn't seem to affect anyone else.
Recalled: no
