Anime Liner Notes: Introduction

Overview

Purpose:
I want to provide an easy to use resource for concise and clear language, culture and external reference notes for Anime.

Examples to consider:
For Simpsons, we have the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.
For Babylon 5, we have the Midwinter site.
For AnimEigo shows, we get little cards or a sheet inserted with the video, and they also have liner notes on their web site.
Also check out the notes in the menus of Dual!, Rurouni Kenshin TV and OAV DVDs, Captain Tylor DVDs and so on.

Why?:
We've all had those moments when we were confused by what is going on. Many would like to know more about our favorite show. Many get frustrated in sorting out all the "Shrines" that go to a particular series that provide reasonably obvious information or boil down to multimedia galleries or have lots of big pictures that bog down modem connections.

Also, while I appreciate the notes and interviews that are included on DVDs, they tend to be hard to read on TVs that are smaller than 27", and there is only so much info that can be put on a screen at a time and the display is extremely limited in resolution. I know many people that have a hard time reading the screens in cases of RK TV notes and others.

As far as I can tell, no one has done a fan-run, multi-show liner note site before. So I am willing to do what I can to provide a catalyst.

Priorities: In no particular order, yet
Easy to read.
Easy to skim.
Formatted for easy printing and insertion in tape and DVD cases.
Accurate.
Notes organized on an episode or chronological basis, to minimize spoilers and also be timely.
Songs & song translations might be nice, but this may be limited due to copyright concerns.

What Shows?:
Whatever people are willing to seek out and contribute information on. I would like to set it up so that dedicated fans of a particular show maintain the notes on that show as they are more likely to know it inside and out.

In short, anything that has more depth than a script translation can provide us, and anything that takes on obscure references that most might not be aware of. I have heard Haunted Junction requested a few times. Lain has great resources available but I personally think it's a little hard to read the best site I know about, due to the color scheme.

Mascot:
I would like a site mascot. Does anyone have suggestions?
