This movie is similar in tone and style with Patlabor 1.
One thing that I am curious about is where the birds fit in. If anyone can lend a clue, I would be very appreciative. One theory I have heard is that they are blight carriers, when the world gets wiped out they'd have an ample supply of disease spreading birds. Maybe Oshii liked birds. I don't remember many in the TV or OAV series, but I don't remember any in Ghost in the Shell either, the most well known Oshii movie in the States. "Arsene Lupin III" emailed and reminded me that UY Movie 2 has a lot of sea gulls.
